A Brief History

The AFMD conference series was initiated by Professor Li Lu at National University of Singapore, with a mission to highlight the latest breakthroughs in materials science and nanotechnology. Over time, it has grown into a truly international event, attracting participants from diverse institutions and countries.

The conference has been held in various locations across the globe:

• 2009, The 1st AFMD was held in Juzhaigou, China.
• 2011, The 2nd AFMD was held in Jeju, South Korea
• 2012, The 3rd AFMD was held in Changchun, China
• 2016: The 5th AFMD was held in Suzhou, China.
• 2017: The 6th AFMD took place in Moscow, Russia, followed later that year by the 7th AFMD in Havana, Cuba.
• 2018: The 8th AFMD was hosted in Leuven, Belgium.
• 2022: The 9th AFMD was held online.
• 2027: The 10th AFMD will be hosted in Athens, Greece.

AFMD remains committed to fostering collaboration among scientists, educators, industry professionals, and students through oral and poster presentations, thematic sessions, and publications in prestigious venues.
